POSTCARD FROM AFRICA-- JUNE 2025
Mayaeyane village is an extremely poor village in a remote part of the North West Province in South Africa. The majority of the community is unemployed and rely on small government grants to survive. Some people may think this is as a hopeless situation. Others may see an opportunity for God to work through the local church to restore joy, peace and an overflow of hope in the community.
One pastor saw this potential when he drove past the village and felt a prompting of the Holy Spirit to play an active role in helping to restore hope in the village. It was not long before a new church was planted in the village. Weekly church services were started in an informal, tin shack structure. With the help of Orchard: Africa, a feeding program, an agriculture program and a preschool was started.
All this ignited a sense of hope in the village. Members of the church started to think differently, no longer feeling poor and hopeless, they started taking small steps from being victims to victors. With this mindset, they took the initiative to start a building program. With their limited funds, they are physically making bricks to build a proper church building.
One brick at a time, God is building His church in Mayaeyane village.
We give thanks to you, our Orchard Community, for helping to restore hope in this village.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13
