FOR YOUR GOOD
Winter has arrived in full force on the southern tip of Africa. The mountains around our mission house are covered in snow, the wind blowing an icy cold into our town. Fireplaces are cranked up high and a lot of warm beverages are being consumed.
At this exact same time, the temperatures in the United States are at 90+ degree days with a long summer ahead. Visits to the oceans, lakes or mountains are planned where the breeze is cool and the pace is slow.
Last night I looked out of my bedroom window at the almost full moon that glowed gold in the sky. It occurred to me that regardless of the weather differences in the northern and southern hemisphere, the moon is constant. The north and south both see this beautiful, present moon. It made me think of our always present God who is with us and around us; he in us and we in him, no matter where we are.
The moon reflects his glory[1] and glorious he is. We are taught in Paul’s letter to the Romans[2] that God’s power, his nature and the essence of who he is can be known by the world that he has made. We need only to look around and we will see his omniscient intelligence, his brilliant artistry, his eternal joy and his powerful presence.
The snow on our mountains will eventually melt and feed the rivers that waters the many farms around our house, that grow the food that will ultimately feed us. The heat in the north will help with evaporation that will eventually turn to rain that feeds the rivers that nourish the crops that feeds us. God’s ways are good, and he is at work for our good.
Regardless of what season you are in (literally or figuratively) look and see that seasons start cycles that produce life. Look and see where the Lord is at work for your good.
May we think on these things!
[1] “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm 19:1
[2] “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20
